Need a break from the daily grind? Make Thursday nights your creative escape. Starting in the Spring of 2026, we will be hosting Open Studio Night every week from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM. It’s uninstructed, stress-free, and open to all mediums. Come for an hour or stay for the whole evening—it's your time to make art in the company of friends.
To keep the creative energy flowing, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as snacks, will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
Urban Sketching & Plein Air in the Illinois River Valley
Get out of the studio and into the streets! From April through October, join us for a bi-weekly artistic adventure across the Illinois River Valley. This unguided, cooperative series is designed to get you inspired by your surroundings in the company of fellow artists. We keep the scenery fresh by alternating locations every session: one week we’ll set up easels to capture the natural beauty of our region’s parks, and the next we’ll head into town to sketch historic architecture and urban life. Whether you are a seasoned plein air painter or a beginner with a sketchbook, this is a social, low-pressure gathering open to all skill levels.

Visual Arts Workshops & Classes
Real Skills | Local Talent | Creative Community

At the Ottawa Center for the Arts, we believe that the best mentors are often your neighbors. Our educational programming is built on a simple philosophy: to bridge the gap between inspiration and mastery using the rich vein of talent right here in the Illinois River Valley.

Our workshops and classes are developed and led by accomplished local artists who live and create in our community. Whether you are looking to sharpen your technical skills in figure drawing, master a new medium, or navigate the business side of art, you will be learning from working artists who understand the journey because they are on it, too.

Most of our Visual Arts Workshops & Classes will require a minimum of 10, and a maximum of 20 students/artists. Please sign up HERE for any of the sessions that you are interested in attending, no upfront fees required, once we have a quorum, we’ll get the session scheduled and notify you of dates & times.
